Resume

Hello and welcome to my portfolio blog. In the following posts you will find examples of my work in a variety of theatrical forms. To look at any picture in greater detail, simply click on the thumbnail. To start off, here is my most recent resume;

700 Sundays

I just returned from Sydney where we launched the Australian National Tour. This production has been widely proclaimed as the highest grossing non-musical in the history of Broadway, and we won the 2005 Tony for best theatrical event. I have been designing it since it's initial inception as a fund-raiser for La Jolla Playhouse four years ago. Click on Photo to enlarge.

Lucia di Lammermoor

I recently made my opera debut with San Jose Opera's Lucia di Lammermoor directed by Timothy Near. I really enjoyed the process and the challenge, and look forward to future collaborations with the company.

Shakespeare Santa Cruz

I have designed 6 shows for Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and this summer will again design the rep-plot for their outside shows. The shows take place in a glen which we take great pride in restoring to it's pristine condition each Fall. Lighting is designed from the dimmers up, and positions are in the trees, or cleverly hidden on the ground and in Scenery - it is a great challenge which I love. This year I will be Designing Much Ado About Nothing, and The Tempest. Here are some pics from last years King Lear, and As You Like It.

History and Mystery

Another show I have spent a lot of time with is The History and Mystery of the Universe, a one man show based on the writings and lectures of R. Buckminster Fuller. I have designed it in eight different venues over five years.

The Old Globe

I spent 18 months as the Director of Lighting for the Globe, and continue to collaborate on a show every year, as well as designing their Gala Fund-raiser in 2003.

San Jose Rep

I am a regular collaborator at San Jose Rep, and will be designing my fifth production, Rabbit Hole later this season. These are photos from a production of Hannah and Martin, set in a studio.

San Diego Rep

I have worked with San Diego Rep for well over a decade on over a dozen show including two of which I production designed (Sets, Lights and Projections)- Women Who Steal and A Christmas Carol 1941, both pictured here. Also pictured is my lighting for their production of Zoot Suit.

Sledgehammer Theatre

I was a resident artist for San Diego's premier alternative theater for over five years. I did over a dozen productions, designing lights, sets and projections, earning six design awards including a San Diego Theatre Critic's award. Click on images to enlarge.
